From riding powder to commanding kitchens, Tahoe City native Andrew Shimer found his calling in the culinary world. He began sharpening his skills at acclaimed restaurants in San Francisco like Aqua and The Waterfront, before earning his stripes as Executive Chef of Oakland’s Mezze.

Eventually, the mountains called Andrew back to Tahoe City where he spent over a decade at Christy Hill Lakeside Bistro. He built a reputation for bold, innovative cuisine and an obsession with house-cured meats, charcuterie, and fermentation. 

Now, with his wife Chata, Andrew brings Sylva to life. The space and menu celebrate the seasons with dishes that are elevated but never fussy, and strike a balance between familiar and fresh.
